The Pink Foam Stuff

My favorite part of getting a new ear mold is when they squirt that foamy pink stuff into my ear.

I love the sweet medicine smell, the coolness, and how it gradually expands in my ear and becomes stiff. For a moment, I become profoundly deaf in my right ear. On top of being profoundly deaf in my left ear, every little noise is blocked out and becomes muffled. It is both offsetting and calming. It is similar to swimming underwater.

I like it when they gently pull it out, revealing a smooth pink mold. It reminds me of a newly born pink mouse. It's kind of cute.

When I was a kid, I absolutely loved this part. 

I hope they never change it!

  1. I LOVED earmould impressions back when I was in primary school, I still do now to this day, the coldness, it makes your eyes water, it's nice and relaxing.

    In school the little bit of the foam stuff, we used to keep and use as bouncy balls :)

  6. My daughter doesn't mind it, but if the goop was pink she'd be hooked forever. Our audiologist uses neon green-yellow.

    Pink earmold....Cool. It'd be cool if they use the percent that would proceed to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

  9. I hate getting molds done. I don't think it's the goop as much as the poking-the-cottonball-down-your-ear-with-a-metal-poker part. The goop stuff is annoying, but only because my aud likes to make conversation/ask me questions after she puts it in my ears.

    My audiologist walks away and leaves me alone for five minutes.

  11. I became so disappointed the day they decided that I was too old to be given a piece of of the pink goo to play with when they took impressions. Ah, well...

  12. I think it is funny that I thought everyone's impression would be pink. I did not know that they came in other colors. All my life it has been the same bubble gum pink. I have been to several different audiologists and hearing aid dispensers and they all used the same pink color.
