It has been a very long time since I have written for this blog. It hasn't been that long, but it feels as if it has been years.
I became very busy and blogging was something I could not bring myself to do on a regular basis. It is not that I don't want to blog anymore. I do. I just needed a break.
I am not sure what direction this blog will continue to go in or what changes I will make to it. For now, I will continue to blog about educating mainstreamed deaf and hard of hearing students and deaf and hard of hearing issues I personally deal with.
So, we'll see how it goes. :)

Well, I don't want you to stop blogging.....so I will ask you for some advice so that you know that there are professionals out there that value your opinion....like me!
ReplyDeleteI have a darling, sweet student that I have been serving since she was in first grade. She is now a sophomore. She came to me crying today and said "I can't do it...I can't go to college." "I admit it, my mom and grandma have been doing all of my writing assignments." "When I have to begin to write, I don't know where to begin!" She also shared with me that she doesn't want to become a TDHOH like me, because she can't write AND because she insists that she wants to be a singer. (She loves Adele!)
First of all, I am glad that she finally admitted that she was not doing her work alone because NOW, I can really begin to help her....(I have always known, but never could get her or the family to come forward)
The real dilemma is breaking the news that she may not ever become the singer that she dreams of becoming. I have always told myself to NEVER say to a student that they couldn't do whatever they wanted to do, but.....well....I fished...suggested she could sing for her church, become a music teacher, take singing lessons...etc....but she insists that she can do it and will do whatever it takes.
Have you ever had anything like this happen to you???? What did you do?
Thanks for your kind words. :) I am hoping that I will be able to devote more time to this blog soon. Been too busy.
DeleteIn response to your query: Yikes! That is a tough situation to be in. While I have had students who wanted to be professional basketball or football players, I never had one that wants to be in the music business. With my students I am pretty blunt and try to focus on the facts/reality.
Please email me when you get the chance, and we can continue this discussion. ehwhathuh@yahoo.com
